  • STEM Award 2020

Discover Primary Science & Maths Award 2019/2020

We were absolutely delighted to recently receive the news that our school has been awarded the SFI Discover Science and Maths Award for the 2019/2020 academic year. The Discover Primary Science and Maths Programme (DPSM) is part of Science Foundation Ireland’s Education and Public Engagement Programme, which aims to increase interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) among students, teachers and members of the public.

A lot of work has been done to promote STEM at Pope John Paul’s over the last number of years. Our efforts have led to us achieving this award for the last 3 years in a row.

Last year our STEM team co-ordinated a hugely successful and enjoyable STEM week in the first term. Each class participated in various STEM activities throughout the week and we held a whole school showcase in the hall on the final day of the week to share our work. Our log of evidence for the award as well as photos and videos from STEM week can be viewed here:  https://www.pjp.ie/discover-primary-science-maths-award/

  • Incredible Edibles 2020

    Fri 16 Oct 2020

Ms. Farelly’s class (2019/2020) took part in the Incredible Edibles healthy eating initiative for primary school pupils and were delighted to receive the news in Term 1 this year that our school has achieved Silver Status based on their fantastic efforts! This great initiative promotes healthy eating and encourages schools to get busy growing carrots, lettuce, potatoes, strawberries, turnips and herbs. Grow packs were supplied to the school containing everything needed to begin growing fruit and vegetables. Even though our last academic year was cut short, students in Ms. Farrelly’s class continued their growing journey at home during school closures. The plants that had been planted at school were brought home by Ms. Farrelly and Ann-Marie (SNA) who took great care of them! The class shared their Incredible Edible journey on their class webpage which can viewed here: Incredible Edibles | Pope John Paul II National School (pjp.ie)

    Well Done to all involved!
