On a fine, crisp Spring morning in early March, Mouse brought Room 14 on a nature walk to investigate all the signs of spring that are occurring in our local environment: blossoming cherry trees, snowdrops and daffodils, hazel and alder catkins flowering, birds building nests etc.
The children were also set the challenge of building a nest that would withstand the blustery Easter winds.
On Ash Wednesday, Mouse visited our classroom, bringing with him some special guests: amphibians and other pond specimens! Amphibians are creatures that can survive both on land and in water. We have three types of amphibians in Ireland: frogs, toads (which, we learned, are native only to Co. Wexford) and newts.
As you can see from the pictures, we saw some wriggly newts, frogspawn, tadpoles and other aquatic insects!
