  • 😊 Wellbeing Week 😊

    Tue 06 Feb 2024

We will be having a Wellbeing Week next week. The teachers have lots of activities planned. Louisa Mceleney came to the school to train the staff in a wellbeing exercise called Tapping or Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). She will be visiting our school on Feb 1st and 2nd to demonstrate this technique to some of our students. EFT has been shown to lower the cortisol (stress hormone) levels. We are aiming to give our students the resiliency and ability to control their thoughts and emotions by learning this new skill.

We will be focusing on many different aspects of wellbeing including physical exercise, healthy eating, positive affirmations, kindness, resilience and mindfulness. It would be great if everyone focused on healthy snacks, lunches and drinks. We would like to encourage all of our school community to eat as many different colours of healthy food as possible. We are looking forward to a really great week of wellbeing!

  • 👩‍🔬 BT Young Scientist Primary Fair 2024 👨‍🔬

    Mon 15 Jan 2024

Our sixth class students had the most incredible day exhibiting their STEM projects at the BT Young Scientist Primary Fair at the RDS on Friday 12th of January.

We were absolutely thrilled and excited when all six of our sixth classes were successful in their project applications.

The BT Young Scientist Exhibition is one of the world's leading and longest-running school science exhibitions, celebrating 60 years this year! This wonderful event aims to encourage primary school students to develop their interest in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) in a non-competitive environment.

The six projects we presented at the event were:

    • Can wearable technology such as a Smart Watch or Fitbit improve children's health and well-being? - Ms. James's Class
    • The Five Second Rule - Fact or Fiction? - Ms. Byrne's Class
    • Estuary Science - Where Fresh Water Meets Salt Water - Ms. Bradshaw's Class
    • How Do We See Colour? - Ms. Millar's Class
    • Battle of the Senses: Is our Sense of Taste Affected by Smell? - Ms. Cahill's Class

As well as having the opportunity to present their projects to the public and visiting judges, all the students had the opportunity to explore and enjoy lots of other amazing STEM activities including other primary and secondary school project stands, live shows and practical STEM demonstrations.

It was a truly incredible learning experience and enjoyable day for all involved and we hope to have the opportunity to take part again next year.

A huge thank-you to all the sixth class teachers as well as Ms. Hayden, Ms. Creavin, Mr. Whiting, Ms. Whyte, Ms. Markey, Jane and the parents who accompanied the children on the day.
