The weather looks promising but a text will be sent that morning in the event that it is too wet and we need to cancel.
Merry Christmas everyone!

Two representatives from all our 5th and 6th classes participated in the internal Eason’s Spelling bee competition recently. Each of the participants did their very best and certainly showcased their spelling talents. Congratulations to all the boys and girls for their amazing efforts.
Following a hard fought battle three students emerged victorious and will proceed to the next stage of the internal competition.
Kyle Lennon,
Luke Murray
Ciaran Peacock.
The boys will participate in a further leg of the competition following the Christmas break. Keep studying boys!
On October 21st the P.E. hall was a hive of activity as over 130 students tried out for a place on our Credit Union teams. There was great representation from all the 4th, 5th and 6th classes with some classes having up to twelve students participating. There was both a junior and senior trial due to the overwhelming interest in securing a place on one of the teams. This huge interest is a credit to the students themselves, their parents and their teachers. Each and every student did their very best. Ms. Shaw and Ms. Kieran were very proud of all their efforts. Those selected for the panel meet regularly for practice and willingly give up their break times to accommodate this.
Many thanks to all the boys and girls for their participation in the trials for the Quiz teams and we hope to see you all again next year. You never know, it could be you representing the school next year.

We are absolutely delighted to announce that we have been awarded the Science Foundation Ireland Discover Primary Science and Maths Award for the current academic year 2018-2019. Some incredible work has taken place throughout the school this year in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). We were commended on our "first class presentation of STEM work which showed a great range and variety of work on display in our school." The judges also commented how "it was obvious that all the children were very involved and clearly enjoying the STEM work."
Well Done to all pupils and teachers involved!
POPE JOHN PAUL II BIZ-ZEE SPELLER INITIATIVE 2019
The Biz-Zee Speller is an initiative which strives to promote and support all students in improving their spelling and spelling skills. This initiative that will initially focus on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th class students. In 2020 this initiative will be run throughout the whole school.
This year there are two year level representatives (class teachers) from 2nd, 3rd and 4th class who have volunteered to assist in the administration of the Biz Zee speller challenge. It has been agreed that four students from each class in each year level will participate in the Biz-Zee Speller challenge 2019.
The programme consists of a practice round and then 8-9 rounds of spellings. Finally there is a tie-breaker round. Each student will be asked a spelling which they must repeat prior to spelling to ensure they have heard it correctly. As the spellings increase in difficulty the students may ask for a sentence and a definition.
The 2nd, 3rd and 4th class Pope John Paul II Biz Zee Speller Challenge will take place on the following dates.
2nd class June 10th 2019 10.50 a.m. PE hall
3rd class June 24th 2019 11.15 a.m PE hall
4th class June 17th 2019 11.15 a.m. PE hall
All classes in each year level will be in attendance at the above challenge. The students will support their class representatives whilst seeing how with effort and hard work they too could be the next Pope John Paul II Biz Zee Speller.
