The Purpose of the Parents’ Council
The purpose of the Parents’ Council is to provide a structure through which the parents/guardians of children attending Pope John Paul II National School can work together for the best possible education for their children. The Parents’ Council will work with the Principal, Staff and Board of Management to build effective partnership between home and school.
What Do We Do
The Parents Council assist the School in improving children's educational experience in many different ways such as:
Funding IT equipment, sports jersey's; educational trips; ensuring road safety; collaboration in policy making
The Parents Council arrange social events and provide hospitality to the children and parents for important events in the calendar such as:
Confirmation; Communion; Graduation & Yearbook
To help cover some of the costs of the above, the Parents Council co-ordinate many fundraising activities such as:
Christmas Cards; Non-uniform days; Walks; Cake & Book Sales; Raffles;
Gibney's Wine Night (Malahide School Collaboration).
Through some of the fundraising events, the Parents Council are also involved in helping to raise money and awareness for charities such as:
CASA; Vincent de Paul (Christmas wishing tree); Goal (red t-shirt day)
The Committee of the Parents Council
The Committee of the Parents Council are elected at the annual Parents Council Annual General Meeting. The Committee then meets at least once a month in the School.
Parents’ representatives are also elected to the Board of Management and are automatically members of the committee.
The Parent Council will affiliate to the National Parent Council Primary annually.
